Recently, the Qinghai Provincial Department of Science and Technology organized experts to evaluate the results of the "Integrated Demonstration Technology for Comprehensive Treatment of Desertified Land in the Qinghai Lake Basin" project undertaken by the College of Agriculture and Forestry of Qinghai University. Experts attending the meeting believed that the project tested a new model and new technology of "ecological + economic" desertification control, provided theoretical basis and scientific and technological support for desertification prevention and control projects, and should be promoted and applied.
Qinghai’s ecological protection and construction is the foundation of Qinghai’s province, and desertification prevention and control is an important part of Qinghai’s ecological protection and construction. The project established a "biological sand barrier + trees + shrubs + herbs + Chinese herbal plants" comprehensive desertification prevention and control experimental demonstration area, using the technology of planting oats, wheat and highland barley sand barrier, which has the characteristics of low investment, quick results and good sand fixation efficiency. The arbors, shrubs, and herbs were selected as sand-fixing plants suitable for the alpine sandy areas of Qinghai Lake. Vegetation establishment techniques such as deep planting of trees with high poles, afforestation with shrub seedlings, and direct seeding of herbaceous soil were used. The survival rate reached over 85%, and the preservation rate reached 80%. Developed wheat straw checkered sand barrier + black willow afforestation, wheat straw checkered sand barrier + golden dew plum (silver dew plum) + golden pheasant afforestation, wheat straw checkered sand barrier + Qinghai spruce + sand cypress afforestation, planting oat sand barrier + It is an engineering and plant-based comprehensive desertification control and afforestation model, including flower stick + sand cypress afforestation, planting highland barley sand barrier + Jerusalem artichoke sand fixation and other six kinds of optimized mixed trees, shrubs and grasses. Technical regulations for setting up sand barriers and technical regulations for sand fixation and afforestation for the treatment of alpine desertified land have been compiled.
